I found some energy to tackle my clothes today for a tidying. I disagree with some of Kon Mari's ideas, especially her attitude to books. But also about that clothes should "spark joy". I mean, no matter what, the clothes I usually wear for work will just never really spark joy. Work clothes is for looking presentable and professional, to show an image, not to make me happy. It's just a matter of making me more or less happy with it, or more or less pretty. But "spark joy"? Uh, not really.

But despite that, I went through some of my clothes and have discarded a pile. Hubby and I took one of those big. black garbage sacks full of my "joyless" clothes to a charity place nearby. I had more than I thought!
It actually felt really good and I'm happy I found the energy for it.

  1. OMG! I thought the same thing. While I love the concept of the Konmara method, and I've been decluttering my place of 17 years, I , like you, have clothing that are functional for work. Do I want to have 5-6 different jackets? No, but in my job, I need a heavy teaching jacket for the bitter cold nights, vest for milder ones, rain coat for those 16 hr days in pouring rain at horse shows, and so on. Same for my foot wear. So, while I love that these items make my job way easier and I love that they help me/keep me dry/warm etc, I'd say sparking joy is more when I get to do what I love.
But, can you believe I was able to--ready for this, donate almost 10 bags of stuff so far??? This isn't just clothing, but house wares, books, stationery, and I seem to have a purse problem and finally donated about 3 bags alone. I hope they go to those less fortunate! I want to donate my blankets/quilts that are stained, but still warm to the homeless, but I'm having trouble finding an organization that is repuitable in my area.

    1. Wow, that's amazing! 10 bags XD That must have felt so good!
I feel you on having trouble finding a good organization though :( I actually ended up just dumping my bag of clothes at the nearest one, because the more I dug into the organizations, the less I liked any of them! It's so bad when the charity actually makes the problem worse, have hidden sexual abuse in the organization, money gets funneled into local military or the CEO gets millions and millions for their "hard work". Yikes.
