Hair for lifting

After some experimentation back and forth, I have found that strangely, the best up do for lifting is a single braid.
You would think that would be the single worst up do for that, but this is what works for me.
I guess it’s because lifting is still somewhat “stationary” even though you do move around. You get in position and then only move certain parts of you for repetitions. It gives you the time to potion your hair before you start.
For squats, I place my braid on top of the bar before unhooking it and starting. For bench-work, I place it on the side and let it fall down to the ground. For things like the bent over row, I simply let it slip over my shoulder and hang down.

Buns were absolutely horrible. They actually managed to get the bar caught underneath my bun when I squat! Buns made it impossible to place my neck comfortable for bench work and actually felt like they got in my way for stuff like deadlifts.

  1. Holy crap!! Look at your abs! I'm jealous!!

I know the feeling about hair style hampering your work outs--though my hair affected me at work. Last week, as I was showing a rider what correct contact was...her very affectionate horse went to nudge me...and got his full cheek snaffle stuck in the side of my braid. Um, yeah. Thankfully, he stood there until I un-hooked it ;)

  2. Omg you're really incredibly toned! Would you please share your routine? My ...hrrm... love handles weren't improved by having a baby so I'm looking for imspiration :)

  3. I bet the biceps are from keeping that long mane gorgeously cared for ;)

  4. Darkhorse: *Giggle* that’s so cute! Good thing the horse didn’t panic though, usch!
And seriously, no joke: Your biceps really DO get a good workout from having long hair. Even after I started strength training I can still find myself with tired biceps after a particularly stubborn-hair-day where the updo just refuses to work.
One time I braided in 40 small braids or so and I seriously had muscle pains the day after!

RockPaperScissorLizardSpock: Some parts are, yes ;) I carry my fat between lovehandles and upper thighs so hmm… I purposely cropped the picture to leave that out. Yep, I’m vain. But I felt I deserved to show my hard work off in the areas where it does show :)
Not sure if I’m the right one to be inspired by or listen to but I’ll happily write down what I do and what has worked for me. Maybe you should just join me at 24/7 :P

  6. Haha atually I have considered joining 24/7 in Lund :D (are there several? I was thinking of joining the one that also offers classes/ group sessions) I share my parental leave equally with my sambo so we take every other day and since I'm studying in Lund it makes more sense for me to do my exercise there when I finish school for the day since it's really "me-time" instead of " Stressing home to baby-time" :)
